Robert Pokorny (b. Merced, CA.1969) is an American contemporary visual artist living and working in Long Beach, California. His drawings and paintings have been exhibited widely in both the United States and Europe. Pokorny received his MFA in Fine Art from California State University Long Beach in 2011 and his BA in Art from California State University Long Beach in 1992. With a strong sensibility and awareness to intuition and exactness, Pokorny’s work is focused on his use of ‘line’ to describe and initiate feeling. Pokorny uses portraiture as a device through which a dialogue is opened between the artist and viewer, the artist and the outside world. Portrait as an expression of myself, the practice of the studio, the intentional dialogue between my own vision and great painters of the past. Portraits that do not convey one person in particular but perhaps pictures of us all – the rich diversity of human dialogue, the moments of deep conflict, the pleasure of pure harmony. Pokorny strives to take a complicated visual world and with a precise and intuitive flourish establish a honed version of reality.
