Maya Ruiz is a Japanese-Venezuelan artist born and raised in Los Angeles. She works primarily with ink, watercolor, crayon, and clay. As a child, she was captivated by folktales and mythologies of all kinds. Tales of titans, sea voyages, underwater kingdoms, and spirits inspired her to look for signs of magic in her own life. Through her artwork, she interweaves her lifelong search for belonging, her relationship with nature, and her family history into her own personal folktales.
